Current State

How We Got Here...

Over the past 40+ years, numerous frameworks, methods, and standards ("tools") have been created to meet the demands of working in an increasingly complex, volatile, ambiguous, and uncertain world (VUCA).

Each new tool introduced came with its own specialized language elements, terms, and core concepts. In far too many cases, tools often use the same term or acronym with different meanings, adding to the overall VUCA-burden to be addressed.

In order to address this and ensure the tools were used properly, organizations needed a mechanism to ensure that their staff had "the right level of knowledge and skill" to use the tools well, helping move their organization toward their desired future state.

As a result, the training and certification industry exploded!

While it may have been good for that portion of the industry, organizations quickly learned that they would need to add new and permanent processes, organizational structures, roles, documentation requirements, etc. to what already existed in organizations. To ensure that these new elements would be successful, they also realized that they'd need specialized software to have people work efficiently and effectively 

As a result, the software tools and consulting industry exploded!

While it may have been good for that portion of the industry, the cumulative, net effect on the adopting organization has been to place the burden of minimize the VUCA and properly use the tools on the back of the adopting organization.

Moving Forward

What Do We Do Now???

While these changes may have been good for some segments of the industry, we believe that the net effect on adopting organizations has been negative overall.

In addition, we continue to see new frameworks, standards, and methods being introduced regularly, adding to the already significant, overall burden.

To be clear, we do NOT believe that we should not develop or invest in these tools. They do hold the possibility of providing valuable perspectives to practitioners and organizations alike, provided there's a suitable context established for how to consume these tools and what it means to the organization.

We believe, as our company name states, that things should be "pretty simple."
